Merino Superior Sires

Independently operated progeny testing sites provide an accurate tool to identify the genetic merit and visual performance of Merino sires. Information is catalogued and available to highlight those with the most commercially important traits.

Merino ram Merino sire evaluation sites are independently run and available across the country.

Sire evaluation examines the potential of progeny from a team of sires joined to equivalent groups of ewes, which are managed together at the same location and time.

AWI funding is used to add value by supporting link sires and information between sites, the collection of hard to measure but economically important traits, the evaluation of sires that exhibit extreme performance for commercially important traits and the publication of a report that combines the performance of sires from different sites across Australia - Merino Superior Sires.
