Japan's consumer spending data highlight a worrying trend. Total family expenditure during the June quarter 2006 fell moderately for the second consecutive quarter. During the same period, average household income deteriorated from a year earlier and in June posted the eighth straight monthly decline.

In a second week which strongly favoured sellers, the Australian Wool Market finished the week 3.6% higher, on average, at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle this week, with the greatest gains made on Thursday.
According to the IWTO Market Information 2006 report, global wool production lifted modestly in the 2005/06 season. At the same time, global wool use at spinning and at retail fell slightly.
