An end of 2006 boost in Japan's domestic production of worsted yarn led to a strong annual result compared with a year earlier. It is the first time in 12 years that worsted yarn production exceeded the year earlier level in Japan.

As reported earlier, retail sales of men's wear in Japan at the end of 2006 were sluggish across all items including coats, suits and jackets.
At the beginning of February, with over half the 2006/07 season complete, the amount of wool tested in Australia remained stubbornly similar to the same period 12 months ago. This is despite a forecast decline in wool production for the full 2006/07 season.

Data now on hand shows that December sales of clothing at retail in Japan remained sluggish and has remained that way since our last report covering the October sales.
Consolidated data from China has revealed that retail sales continued to record double digit growth in November 2006. This growth in retail sales in China is broad based, over a comprehensive range of products with sales of luxury items (such as cars) growing remarkably.
