Statistics released by the Argentine Wool Federation in October show a healthy rise in Argentina's wool exports, both in volume and value terms, in the first quarter of the 2007/08 season.

Australian wool exports, in both US$ and A$ terms, have risen steadily since June 2006. At the end of August 2007, wool exports in A$ terms were up strongly on year earlier levels and in US$ terms, the rise was even stronger, recording the highest annual level in US$ terms in 9 years.

A review of statistics from the US Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) reveals US imports of wool apparel reached a 2 year high in August, hitting a similar level to that recorded in August 2005. The solid performance of wool apparel imports in the US market is within the context of exceptionally strong imports by the US of apparel and textiles.

Data released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis shows expenditure on apparel in the US rose solidly in August, its fastest rate since January 2006.

As Korean consumers become increasingly optimistic about the economy, department store sales posted the 3rd straight increase in August. According to Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, total sales at the three major department stores in Korea jumped solidly year-on-year in August. In contrast, total sales at the three largest discount stores in Korea fell moderately in August compared to a year before.

Meat and Wool New Zealand Economic Service estimates that sheep numbers at the start of the current season (July 2007) are 2.4% lower than a year earlier, due in large part to a substantial decrease in sheep numbers on the East Coast following drought and floods.
