Fashion - Goot on Target with Australian Merino

Everyday Australians will have access to quality designer garments at an affordable price – and they are made with what their creator calls the world’s highest-quality fibre

Goot on Target with Australian MerinoDemand for designer collections in affordable retail chains has taken off, and a leading Australian designer who loves working with Australian Merino wool has hit Target.

The ‘Josh Goot for Target’ collection will this month be available at the Australia-wide chain store, part of the same initiative that recently saw stampedes of ‘fashionistas’ hit the aisles for UK designer Stella McCartney’s collection.

“The collection is about great basics, a new treatment for wardrobe essentials – a trans-seasonal collection that is versatile, relevant and stylish,” Josh says.

The entire collection is made using Australian Merino wool. Since 2005, Josh has been working with AWI on Australian Merino wool fabrics, as he believes it is the world’s highest-quality fibre. “I have never before worked with a fibre that is so versatile, applicable for all seasons and available to be treated in so many unique ways to give so many astounding finishes,” he says.

In 2004, the Josh Goot label was launched in Australia and has since won the renowned Tiffany and Co young designers’ award, followed by a showing at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in September 2006, which took the world by storm. Due to his success he returned to show during NYFW in February 2007.
Josh believes in providing quality to the buyers of the Josh Goot Designers for Target collection. It includes classic designs that can be worn year after year as well as using fabrics that provide the wearer with a luxurious and comfortable garment. There are 12 styles in the collection, including tank tops, a cardigan, a tube skirt and leggings as well as dresses and a must-have trench coat.
The Australian Merino wool fabric featured in the range was developed in Australia by DPK, which manufactures all fabric at its own production facilities in Sydney, a partnership established for Josh Goot by AWI. The fabric is Australian Merino wool blended with Tactel® and elastane. A unique aspect is the special appearance of the fabric – a dense silver resin coating that gives all garments a unique ‘Goot’ finish.

The collection includes neutral and bright colours, which brighten a winter wardrobe. Many of the garments have been created with the Australian climate in mind and have the ability to move through from winter to summer – taking the wearer from day to night and from work to play, all while feeling cool and comfortable.

“I am proud and privileged to be involved with the Designers for Target initiative,” Josh says. “I have enjoyed working with the Target team and think the initiative is important in bringing everyday Australians quality designer garments at an affordable price.

“To have used Australian Merino wool, have the fabric made by Australian knitters, and to have created a range that sells at an affordable price through a widespread Australian retail chain, is a fantastic accomplishment.”

All garments in the Josh Goot for Target collection note the use of Australian Merino wool, and each swing ticket promotes Australian Merino wool.

The collection, priced between $59.99 and $129.99, will be available in selected Target stores on 19 June.
