Fashion - Merino goes to Sydney Fashion Week

Leading Australian designers have demonstrated the sophistication and versatility of Australian Merino wool with new collections

Jayson Brunsdon's Merino wool resortwear collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in SydneyLeading Australian designers Jayson Brunsdon and Tina Kalivas, in collaboration with AWI, have taken Australian Merino wool to the catwalk during Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in Sydney.

Jayson Brunsdon once again showed the true versatility of Australian Merino wool with his spring/summer 2008 collection, which is in stores in January.

“I feel very proud to work with Australian Merino wool,” Jayson says. “It is an exciting fibre – and surprising to use tropical-weight wool with a wet-look finish for a resort collection. The Australian Merino wool that I have previously used has been very well received, and many wool garments have been ordered by customers across the globe.”

Jayson’s spring/summer 2008 collection features 24 individual looks within the resortwear collection, one of his smallest yet, with sophisticated, shapely, feminine pieces. Colours featured include mango, reef blues, palm greens and orchid pinks to highlight the tropical paradise escape.

Tina Kalivas, on the other hand, stormed the catwalks with her unique spring/summer 2008 collection. The theme of the entire collection is strong tailoring, structure and almost costume design elements.
“Australian Merino wool was the ultimate option for me to use this season,” Tina says. “It is fitting for the tailoring and drape I require for my garments and provides wearers with a luxuriously soft next-to-skin feeling.”

Seventy per cent of the Tina Kalivas spring/summer 2008 collection is made from quality Australian Merino wool or wool-blend fabrics.
