200 reasons to celebrate
This year, the Australian wool industry celebrates 200 years of successful international wool trade – it was in 1807 that the first bale of Australian wool was sent to Britain to be sold, thus establishing the Australian wool trade. Today, Australia still stands firm as the world’s leading producer of fine Merino wool.
AWI, in collaboration with industry stakeholders, has established a series of local and international activities that mark and celebrate the 200th anniversary. This edition of Beyond the Bale includes an eight-page feature on this historic occasion.
