Off farm testing

Off-farm testing methods currently being researched and implemented by AWI will asses the viability of emerging technologies and address threats to wool quality such as dark or medullated wool fibre contamination.

Overview

A greater understanding of the product that is being generated by Australian woolgrowers allows AWI to maintain the standard and reputation of Australian wool.

Off-farm testing methods allow a more accurate prediction of wool’s pre-processing quality, contamination risk and helps minimise the costs of implementing new technologies.

An increase in the occurrence of dark and medullated contamination of greasy Australian wool is of concern to our global processors.

AWI has developed a program to directly attack the incidence of these fibres, the Dark and Medullated Fibre Risk (DMFR) Scheme, which allows woolgrowers to accurately asses the risk of contamination.
